Introduction

If you are looking for that viral "cloud carpet" photo you’ve seen all over Malaysian social media, Wang Kelian Viewpoint is where it happens. Perched roughly 300 meters above sea level on the Nakawan Range, this spot has transformed from a quiet border road into Perlis' most iconic attraction.

We love this spot because it offers a high-reward view for very little effort. Unlike many peaks in Malaysia that require a grueling hike, you can drive right up to the observation deck here. On a clear morning after a rainy night, the mist settles into the valley below, creating a thick white "Sea of Clouds" that makes you feel like you're standing on top of the world. Even on mornings without the mist, the view of the limestone hills stretching into Thailand is spectacular.

What to See and Do at Wang Kelian Viewpoint

Sunrise Observation Deck

This is the main event. The multi-tier wooden deck is perfectly positioned to face the east. We recommend arriving by 6:30 AM to catch the "blue hour" before the sun breaks over the horizon. The deck can get crowded on weekends, so snag a spot early.

Perlis State Park Border Trail

For those who want a bit of a stretch, there are light trails nearby that follow the ridge of the Nakawan Range. These trails offer different angles of the limestone formations and a chance to spot some of the unique flora of the Perlis State Park.

Wang Kelian Sunday Market (Pasar Sempadan)

If you visit on a Sunday, the base of the hill comes alive with a bustling border market. It is a fantastic place to grab authentic Thai-influenced snacks, cheap household goods, and fresh local produce. It’s a literal stone's throw from the Thailand-Malaysia border.

Hours

Getting there and around

The viewpoint is located about 35km from Kangar, the capital of Perlis. The drive takes roughly 45 minutes via Route R15. The road is paved and well-maintained, but it features several steep, winding "S-curves" as you ascend. Ensure your vehicle's brakes and tires are in good condition. There is a dedicated parking area at the peak, though it fills up fast on public holidays.
